From the 2017 Long Trail Guide, 28th edition: There have been problems over the years with partying on this spot, and GMC is working with the GMNF and Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation to limit inappropriate use. There was a gate installed on the road used to access the shelter by the town of Shrewsbury. However, move on if you encounter problems.

Cooper Lodge

From Cooper Lodge follow the steep and rugged 0.2 mile blue blazed Killington Spur to the summit of Killington Peak (4,235 feet).
Notes: Named for Charles P. Cooper, GMC president (1917-1925) and is the highest shelter on the Long Trail.
